More Specific Contest Brief
I've seen a number of contests where the Contest Holders give verrry little information about what they want and need exactly. Lots of times it's hard for designers to give them want they want because well..we don't know what they want. So we waste hours of brainstorming and designing when the CH could have simply added a few more things in the brief. So maybe just how "description, brand name, etc" are writting, there should be more fields for the CH to fill out specifying more things about what they want.

Search: Check option on Contest page
When i was doing a search earlier, it showed old contests that are completely useless to us when we are looking for specific contests. From what i can tell, you have to click on the search button and then check the box. It would be much more efficient to have it on the design page also and it wouldnt take a minute to implement.

'Half blind' contests - 1*-3* designs are visible, but high rated and un-rated designs are hidden
As I am sure many other designers here will have experienced, you have made an original design, submitted it, and it has been well rated. But everyone else can see that the contest holder likes what you have created, so subsequent entries from other designers begin 'borrowing' generously design elements from your design, sometimes going on to win the contest. This can be very frustrating and a little unfair and is the main problem I find with open contests which do have some benefits, just as much as hidden contests have both benefits and weaknesses.
As a way to solve…

Have RSS feeds for designs submitted to a contest.
I'd like to have an RSS feed to see all the recent submissions to my contest. I'd really like an RSS feed for everything on the site, like flickr does.

Editable Comments
Users should be able to edit or remove their own comments on the site (within submission and main contest pages.)
It'd allow for a much cleaner contest environment and a much more pleasurable experience all around.

Allow editing of a submitted entry w/o having to withdraw it
Often times I find myself submitting an entry, and then realizing that it gets cropped in the preview, or noticing a small mistake, or wanting to make a small improvement after seeing it on the site, and it would be nice to resubmit without having to withdraw the original one, leaving the previous comment without the entry.

Bring back private messaging in contests.
Restricting the ability to send private messages to the CH after you have entered the contest is counter-productive. Often, the designer may need to offer an explanation or ask a question about feedback given. If there are hundreds of entries, it is unlikely that the CH will check every design to see if any new comments have been made.
Recently, I received a low rating in a contest because the CH did not understand how my design would work. I could post a comment explaining the design, but unless I submit another entry, the CH might never see my explanation.

Replace the star rating with percentage of interest.
it seems the process of using the star ratings are not effective for the CH and designer who joined the contest in it. because of a design should be better assessed by the percentage of how much closer to what is considered by CH
other than that percentage can also ensure that the design is such that the options that suit for CH.

Why so many contests are not paying out
I am fairly new to this website...and think it has great potential and see that it is improving all the time.
HOWEVER...after winning an award, I find out that people...whether part of 99desgns or not are getting intouch with CH after a winning award has been chosen and sending them a message saying they will re-create what has been chosen as the winner for a cheaper price.
Very clever, you have to admit...but information tells me that over half of CH go for this offer!
I think there needs to be a solutions for this immediately rather than having people…

Some CHs choose the yuckiest design as a winner
Some CHs choose the yuckiest design as a winner, maybe you can start a new service at 99designs for the CHs where professional designers (from the 99designs staff) give advice -just advice- to the CH will ranking entries through out the contest.
I can't believe they end up with such a winning design in this century, they sometimes choose designs that would've won only if it were1990.15 votes -
Add email option when contest winner chosen
When a design is selected as the winner, the next step should be to take the contest holder to an email creation page to communicate with the designer. Now we have to go to the designer's profile to send a private message. We know that the next step is to send an email, so help us by making it the automatic follow up to choosing a winner.

Remove the ability to Eliminate Designers
I was just eliminated from a contest that has almost a day to go - the
email stated that the CH was narrowing down designer choices. How is this
possible with so much time left? There are designers that have been with
this contest since the beginning and now they are shut down so that last
minute entries can take center stage? If the CH is going to categorically
eliminate designers they should be forced to end the contest early and make
their choice. Just my 2 cents but it doesn't seem equitable for those of us
that get in…14 votes -
Let design contest go until deadline.
To many talented designers waste time to work on a design thinking that they have time before contest ends but the CH jumps on a design that they like and ends contest early. My fist sitepoint contest I was just working on just ended with 20hrs left. I had spent 3hrs working on a design that is to be wasted now. Leaves a bad taste in a desingers mouth, not sure if I will use sitepoint again.

Removing comments + with drawl from a contest completely.
> when we had entered a contest, we make comments on our designs or make comments on other designs. If there is a edit/remove buttons available to edit our own comments it will be very helpful.
> When we enter a contest, after sometime for some reasons if we don't like the contest or not able to continue with in the contest...
If there's a button to completely quit from that particular contest will be very useful. (just like with drawling our entries from a contest).Thanks.

More contests Guaranteed
Nowadays I see a lot of designers asking "Can you make this contest guaranteed?". I do not think this will happen a lot with the current system. 99designs asks for 10% of the prize in order to make one, no matter for what purpose.
I am not a CH but a Designer, however I can imagin that a CH will not pay that. They know that they will pick someone and just have to trust the community that they will submit, and even more when they guarantee it! What if all entries suck? There goes your 10%.
My idea is,…

99Designs keep prize money when CH does not choose a winner, this prize money should go to designers
Right now, as I understand it, if a contest holder holds a non-guaranteed contest, and then never selects a winner or claims a refund (usually they just disappear and never login again), the prize money is kept by 99Designs.
This to me seems incredibly unfair to the designers in the contest, that 99Designs profits from the designers work in this way (in addition to the listing fees).
This prize money should be distributed among the designers in a contest in the same way as in Guaranteed contest when the CH doesn't choose a winner.
I think the 99Designs terms state…

I frequently want to sort according to "brand name"
I very frequently want to sort the list of projects I participated in or the ones I'm watching according to "brand name". I'm sure many designers out there remember the contest by the "brand name" more than recalling it with the contest title which is usually something like "help me with a kick ass logo that will blablablablablabla...bla!!! possible future work :) :) :S".
With the increasing amount of contests a designer participates in it's hard to remember what contest title was the one that had the brand name "X"
Search engine isn't always efficient and it's not the professional…14 votes -
User should not be able to use other username
Hi,
Please 99designs moderator do not allow user to pick existing username.
This is happening right now a new user take an existing user name and steel the design at the same time!!!
This will be confusing for the contest holder!!
Please fix it asap!!!

Designer Protection from 99Designs
Designers need a method of forum or consultation concerning arbitrary suspension from 99Design staff members. Currently there is no warning, no method to refute, no effort made on the part of 99Designs to explain.
Basically, any other designer or CH can request suspension and 99Designs will not even contact the party being suspended other than to inform them of suspension.
Even criminals get a chance to plead their case... even in Australia a nation full of criminals.
