I think a lot of times, contest holders just don't know what to say about something if they like it or don't like it. I know that as a designer it's frustrating to have a design eliminated and not know what to do or what a CH didn't like.

I think it would be cool if there were a basic rating system in every CH design comment box. Sort of like a signature where it's automatically there, and they just fill it in. They could also change and edit them as needed. The could also be directly attached to the star rating system for a more accurate rating on a design.

Raitings will be 0-5, 0 being least liked, and 5 being most liked. You may do 1/2 ratings as well. Here's an example of what could be on a logo design:

Look and Feel: 3.5/5 - Nice and clean, but too modern.

Color: 4/5 - Love these colors, but would like to see other variations.

Typography/Readability: 4/5 - Like the font, but would like to see it thicker

Message: 3/5 - Buyers may not see what my company does through this logo. Maybe add something or start from scratch.

Star Rating = 3.6/5 (would be shown as 3.5 stars)

This can make it easy on both the CH and designer. The CH will have a good basis for critique, and the designer will know exactly what they like or hate. You could even put a very basic description that goes with each number. For instance:

Color: 0/5 - The color for this logo is just not what we're looking for

Color: 5/5 - The color is great and works very well for this design.

Of course the CH can always edit and change the answers, and should be encouraged to be as detailed as possible when saying they like or hate something.

The CH could also just choose a certain amount of ratings to be used in their contest. They would have to pick at least 5 from a drop down menu to represent their contest, and it would be added as a signature to the top of all their comment boxes for a design.

Hope this idea is okay, because I think it would make things much more effective, especially for those CH's that don't know what to say when critiquing a design.

Thank you,
J

I think this would greatly improve the creative designs that are submitted, and also help the CH with what to say.
