Minimum # of entries or can withdraw fairly.

I have been looking through the design contests thinking of ideas on what I want before I launch mine and I have noticed some will have only a couple entries, even with prizes worth over $150. Yes I know that is not a lot for a quality logo but it sure is a lot for a piece of... well you get the idea. I don't think it is fair that someone should have to pay a contest if basically no one enters, if that happened to me I would definitely reconsider ever posting another contest with my hard earned cash.

Maybe just a simple "if under 5 entries, holder can withdraw without bad reputation..etc..etc" Call it a "slow, or dead" contest.

I dunno, just spitting out an idea here.

But how do you come up with a fair number. On another site I've been researching, there needs to be at least 25 entries, if less than that, the CH can get a refund - regardless of whether all 24 submissions (1 short of the required number) were quality entries - that's the type of thing I *don't* want to see here.

pay 99design first and get a guaranteed contest label on your contest and trust me you will have no problem getting a good amount of entries even with a $150 prize

I think CH don't need more # of entries, what they need is just one good entry to go with.

Look, CH already have the option to end early anyway. Remember, designers are taking a risk as well.

I've had quite enough of "idea shoppers", and "dead beats".

My concern with this is that it would be abused, but we would certainly like to come up with a fair way to further reduce the risk that contest holders face with guaranteed contests.

Yes, designers love to have feedbacks and star ratings. This keeps them going. With the new health system now, you will definitely notice that most contests who only had a few entries in are marked "unhealthy". ;)

Also, sometimes there are good reasons for contests not having a lot of entries: (no feedback from CH, short/confusing brief, etc)

I think of the contest listing fee as an advertising or administrative fee. Kind of like paying for a classified ad. There are no guarantees that your item will sell, but as long as the paper publishes your ad to a large base of subscribers (potential buyers), they've done their job. Your job as a classified advertiser (or a contest holder) is to make the most of that exposure.
