Entry Watermarking

And this can even lead to fraud the way it is.
Im a designer with a lot of work and my clients ask me samples of things they want.

I go to 99templates and ask the same. A make a simple one and say to everyone to improve theirs. I make myself a winner and I give no prize. My client gets to see alot of good works and choose what he wishes and I simply just have to remake the one He wants.
Obvious I need to be a good designer too. To imitate.

The site urgently needs a watermark in the midle of every sample.

It requires work to remove watermarking. The idea is just to prevent working designers to have people here working and giving bright ideas for free to any "clever" design agency. I have an Agency and a client comes to me and ask me for a project and I grab and put a contest here and show the works has mine then to the pick by the client I just imitate is work. I choose my design to not pay prize.

i think that watermarks wouldn't do any difference, they do on photographs, but not on logos (99designs's speciality).. a logo is mainly a simple image representing an idea.. the difficult part about designing a logo is the idea, not the drawing part.. even if the logo has a watermark, anyone, with a look at some tutorials on google would be able to reproduce it on whatever program

I think having the option of automatically watermarking my designs, both visually and digitally should be a must.

Take a look at this contest for instance and the feedbacks:

I will happily change back the title, it just didn't make much sense. Your last sentence was the only actual request for a feature.

And because no fraud was reported It does not mean it does not happen.
There are like what ? Billions of web pages? 6 billion people and raising. Why would it be needed for someone to report it to have it posible to have a contest fraud. I've been wathcing some contest and it clearly appears to me that something fishy is going on sometimes. Lot's of aboandoned contest. No feedbacks, etc...

I really don't know why the title I've putten was changed. I mean you dont have the right to change people ideas at your own taste.

CONTEST FRAUD explain much better then entry watermarking what can be happening.

Btw, don't get me wrong here, I am all for preventing fraud, if I thought this would actually make a significant difference we would do it in a second (or a couple of weeks, as reality may dictate). As I said, I will let you guys speak on this one in terms of votes.

I'm afraid I disagree, as I said I think the percentage of fraud you mention would be absolutely tiny. We haven't had a single reported instance of a design being ripped off and used AS SUBMITTED. Perhaps we should offer an "opt-in" watermark for designers, where you can select whether you want to use watermarking when submitting an entry. I suspect it wouldn't be very popular.

But at least with some watermarking you can't grab anyone work has if it's yours andshow it off site somewhere.

You comment is totally wrong. I might have to reproduce but certainly no grab it directly from the site and show it has mine if a watermark is there. What matters here is not clutters but to express the concept idea. And no watermark will keep it from show it.

Watermarks prevent a a tiny, tiny percentage of fraud. The idea is the important bit, not the execution. Watermarks just serve to irritate and clutter a design. There is a reason so few designers use them presently. That said, I will be interested to see how this gets voted.
