13,000 designers for 141 contests?
It is getting out of hand. 99 designs has 13,000 designers and 141 logo contests. The value of our work is being drawn down fast. This is killing the designers and letting the clients lower the prize money because they figure they will still get a decent amount of samples even if the post only $100.
When a contest starts between 7 and 5 days we already have 40 to 50 samples by day 2 or 3 the client has almost 200. When a client posts a decent amount of money $800 they have over 500 samples which is mind-blowing!!!!! If this continues imagine what is going to happen when we have 20,000 or 25,000 designers.
it is hard to limit the amount of designers but if we do not put a limit to this situation, we are shooting ourselves in the foot.
Our hard work will be worth nothing at the end.
Maybe 15,000 is a round number to consider?

I think that 99designs should make a filter to accept designers. That way we'll stop seeing crap (just search the proposals for "exploding pants") and +100 entries for a contest.

can't stop new designers from participating, but the quality of designs submitted has gone way down. that cannot be good for anybody

So, uh, you're suggesting we stop accepting new designers?

Well, you should enter the contest with the mindset of "I may not win, but I will give it my best." As contest numbers dwindle down (there are ups and downs), competition will inevitably become more fierce. Just be sure you're properly equipped in your skill department before you jump in. I agree, when there is a great imbalance between open competitions and hungry designers, many will leave.
