But you know, I'm willing to concede to your point: 99D is "collaborative." So I propose a new idea. Since everything is collaborative, every winner of a contest should be required to give parts of his winnings to entrants he obviously took "inspiration" from. Let's see how much ppl like genpix will believe in "collaboration" should they have to lose a quarter to half their winnings to others! ;-)
BTW, your examples are flawed and intellectually dishonest. It goes without saying that an apple will be almost certainly be used for a company with an "apple" in its name or "grapes" for a grape company or "tickets" for a travel company. It doesn't go without saying that a company called Roses R Us will have roses in the shape of a heart for a logo or have the logo itself have thorns and roses.
genpix: the only person who seems to have a poor idea of "what's copying and what's not" is you, which makes sense because you seem to be one of those very ppl that have inspired this Suggestion in the 1st place-- a person who thinks that there's a hazy line between outright theft and "inspiration." All the better to glom off those who actually took the time to come up with an idea, eh?
This is childish. You're assuming that people who don't win tons of contests aren't good designers. What about good designers who don't have time to enter 100s of contests because they have 9 to 5 jobs, kids to take care of, or some other situation that prevents them from entering contests full time?
BTW, I've seen "sucky designers" win contests by cheating and leeching.
