  1. I would prefer if it was just easier for ANYONE to report these things and based on the volume of reports the system could move the items to a moderation queue.

  2. One thing that is a problem is where designers submit 10+ different minor variatons on a concepts before they have got any feedback at all. It makes it hard for the contest holder to keep up with feedback. If the CH askes for variations, that is fine.

  3. Who are you talking about jmill?

  4. Interesting idea, it's something we have been considering actually.

  5. The other major problem is that often people in one household or office share a computer, or an IP address. We have lots of husband/wife design teams. All I will say on the topic is we have a VERY good idea of who is using duplicate accounts, and we have ways of detecting if people have been "patting their own backs". As we progress, these systems become more sophisticated.

  6. Feedback is per designer, not per design. So if you give feedback to at least one design from a designer then the percentage you mentioned is satisfied. Could you provide us with some links to your contests so we can see?

  7. Nadia, you took the words right out of my mouth :)

  8. I'm not sure I follow your meaning, is there a suggestion here?

  9. The eliminate option is now AJAX driven on the designer pages, still considering whether we want to have an eliminate button on the contest page.

  10. Lynrite, could you forward us the details as support@99designs please? We will do what we can to help.

  11. Nadia, comment editing in a specific time window would make for a good suggestion. I would certainly vote for it.

  12. I absolutely understand where both of you are coming from, the open nature of contests can certainly be frustrating in cases like this. We are looking at a number of options, rest assured it's something that is on our radar.

  13. To make it clear to contest holders (and everyone else) we don't remove comments. If you said it, you said it :)

  14. We are not prioritizing the issue because we have other issues to address first that are of much higher impact. This is certainly something we want to do, but we want to do it well, which isn't easy to do in context with the current site.

  15. I might find some stats on this, but my guess would be that entries submitted late actually are disadvantaged, as generally the contest holder has decided on a designer to work with when the contest is nearing a close.

  16. So, uh, you're suggesting we stop accepting new designers?

  17. Banning IP's isn't feasible. But we do detect duplicate accounts, so bans are effective. With the contest health system, these users Contests will be immediately unhealthy.

  18. Why would you want to do that?

  19. Good catch, thanks.

  20. Well, a couple of hours anyway. Apologies.

  21. I'm not keen on this one, if you entered the contest, you entered the contest. Seems like it has the potential for abuse.

  22. Hey, great idea!

  23. I will happily change back the title, it just didn't make much sense. Your last sentence was the only actual request for a feature.

  24. So your suggestion is we basically shut down?

  25. If there were unlimited votes, what would be the point of voting? :)

  26. Anyone got a spare iPhone? :)

  27. Not keen on this one, but I will leave it around for a while to see how it goes.

  28. Good suggestion, would love to see this one get voted up.

  29. The main reason we haven't done this is we don't want to clutter the contest interface. Adding another counter and clearly indicating what it is would actually be fairly hard to fit into the current layout, any specific suggestions?

  30. Btw, don't get me wrong here, I am all for preventing fraud, if I thought this would actually make a significant difference we would do it in a second (or a couple of weeks, as reality may dictate). As I said, I will let you guys speak on this one in terms of votes.

  31. I'm afraid I disagree, as I said I think the percentage of fraud you mention would be absolutely tiny. We haven't had a single reported instance of a design being ripped off and used AS SUBMITTED. Perhaps we should offer an "opt-in" watermark for designers, where you can select whether you want to use watermarking when submitting an entry. I suspect it wouldn't be very popular.

  32. Yup, absolutely, this is something we have wanted to do since day 1 :)

  33. We know when users create multiple accounts and tend to come down pretty hard on people creating duplicate accounts to dodge bad history.

  34. snugbrimm, I deleted your 8 other comments, I figured that last one pretty succinctly summarized what you were saying in a way that didn't involve any potentially defamatory remarks ;)

  35. Watermarks prevent a a tiny, tiny percentage of fraud. The idea is the important bit, not the execution. Watermarks just serve to irritate and clutter a design. There is a reason so few designers use them presently. That said, I will be interested to see how this gets voted.

  36. Rodney: In a prepaid contest there will be an interface that facilitates the exchange, so it will be effectively at the same time.

  37. Yes, ulahts does tend to top the scoreboards :)

  38. My concern with this is that it would be abused, but we would certainly like to come up with a fair way to further reduce the risk that contest holders face with guaranteed contests.

  39. Indeed it does, which is why we haven't implemented it yet. I would certainly love to come up with a way to that was clear to everyone involved. Maybe even just the ability to award a second and third place without a cash prize? Or possibly a way to "tip" designers?

  40. Multiple prizes would always be for the full amount. "Consolation prizes" sounds good, but it's too confusing to convey to contest holders that they don't get the rights to the design in exchange for a lesser amount of money. I am a big believer that if a designer enters a contest expecting a certain prize they shouldn't give up that design for less than that expected price.

  41. I'm not much a fan of the old-boys-club mentality, certainly any moderators that were selected would be selected based on reliability and proven track record of exemplary behavior rather than seniority.

Will have a good think about the suggestion of a pool of moderators suggestions.

  42. Currently contest holders can only award a single prize through the system.

  43. Certainly something needs to be done about comments, we have been trying to find the right answer before committing to something. Frankly, I didn't like the old hide message feature, it was mis-used a lot to hide important comments.

  44. I'm not sure I quite understand what your saying here, can't contest holders award a winner at any point already?

  45. The issue with this is that the moderators are also designers, is it really fair to have designers who are potentially entering contests able to make serious judgement calls about other designers entries? I have a lot of respect for our long time designers, but putting them in a position where they have a potential conflict of interest really isn't fair to anyone.
