  1. Yes, I wholly agree. I didn't see a problem with the original six day length.
The 10 day length is a bit too long for me.

Lachlan, perhaps you can charge the contest holder extra to extend the 5/6 days to 10 days? Maybe another source of revenue? ;-)

  2. Voted for it!

  3. Well, you should enter the contest with the mindset of "I may not win, but I will give it my best." As contest numbers dwindle down (there are ups and downs), competition will inevitably become more fierce. Just be sure you're properly equipped in your skill department before you jump in. I agree, when there is a great imbalance between open competitions and hungry designers, many will leave.

  4. I agree. Lachlan, please realize that the designers are a very important part of your business, too. Nadia P had told me that Fast Track contests often ends early -- I was new to 99 Designs and could not find that important fact in the Fast Track description.

Perhaps you could charge the contest holder for ending the contest early or post a 1 day early note about the impending closure.

  5. I still don't understand why this isn't a standard feature -- okay, maybe I do business-wise. My first winning entry received a "Good job, thanks" message and I did not get the prize.

Flaw: There is protection for the contest holders here, but absolutely no protection for the designers. Please, 99 Designs, have all contests prepaid. Alas, the designers here are what keeps your site alive!
